ILLUMINATE AFRICA BY STRENGTHENING WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

Helping hundreds of Burkinabé women in rural areas acquire solar lamps on their own

ACCES TO ELECTRICITY : A LUXURY RESERVED FOR A MINORITY OF AFRICAN FAMILIES

imagesAfrica today consists of more than 650 thousand people without access to electricity.

Copyright Christian LAMONTAGNEIn Burkina-Faso, in particular, less than 2% of the rural population has access to electrical networks, while 70% of the population lives in rural zones.

Traditional oil lanterns and battery-powered lamps, but also candles or firewood, remain the primary source of light. Thereby, the families live in poor conditions (instability, air pollution) and economic development is limited.

KALO SOLAR LAMPS OFFER AFRICAN WOMEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS HIGH QUALITY, SUSTAINABLE, AND PROFITABLE LIGHTING.

Unlike oil lamps that emit CO2 emissions and harmful fumes, or battery-powered lamps that generate waste, solar lamps are environmentally friendly

AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO ILLUMINATE AFRICA BY STRENGTHENING WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

In collaboration with the ENTREPRENEURS DU MONDE NGO and the LAGAZEL company, the NAFA NAANA program has developed an innovative approach to distribute locally produced KALO solar lamps on a large scale in Burkina Faso.

Thanks to your donations, NAFA NAANA will facilitate access to solar lamps for groups of low-income women in rural areas through three actions:

1

Raising awareness about energy instability

4

The use of discount vouchers and credit  for easier acquisition of lamps

5

Lamp delivery in rural areas and operational training

Nafa Naana is a Burkinabé social enterprise that distributes clean and efficient energy equipment. Nafa Naana works along side the French NGO Entrepreneurs du Monde, which has been working with people in developing countries since 1998. Since its creation, and thanks to the support of Entrepreneurs du Monde, Nafa Naana has distributed more than 40,000 solar lamps and cooking equipment through a network of a hundred micro-entrepreneurs and women's groups.

How will we spend your money ?

To maximize the impact of the operation, Nafa Naana will focus on structured women's groups (eg cooperatives of shea or sesame butter producers, or savings and credit groups). In order to carry out an awareness campaign with a group of several hundred women, in which it is estimated that about 200 to 300 women will choose to equip themselves with energy products thanks to the financial resources put in place, we need 3,500 €.

Your donations will fund:

-  Awareness-raising activities on energy deficiency;

-  Delivery of lamps in rural areas, training in the use of products and operation of the warranty;

-  Discounts on the purchase of lamps in the form of a voucher (up to 50%);

-  Credit management and monitoring of the use of products.
